Artist Profile – Steve Stratis
In the art world, steve stratis is an award-winning designer and entrepreneur. His abstract sculptures have earned him multiple awards in prestigious exhibitions and competitions. Steve Stratis was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and currently lives in the Upper West Side neighborhood. He has an M.A. in Music Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music and has studied with Anthony Coleman, Ted Reichman, and Bruce Brubaker. His work explores the relationship between composition and improvisation. He has written for chamber ensembles and solo instruments, and performs with groups including PrncX and the multi-keyboard ensemble MaMMotH.
He is also an advocate for the arts and has served on several public and private boards of directors. Previously, he was chairman of the board of trustees of the Museum of Modern Art and a member of the board of directors of the National Endowment for the Arts. He has also been a trustee of the American Ballet Theatre and an adviser to the National Symphony Orchestra.
Throughout his career, he has received numerous artistic prizes and grants from institutions including the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Takefu International Festival in Japan, the Fondation Royaumont in France, and the New England Conservatory. Moreover, he has been a recipient of the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching at the University of Pennsylvania and a Louis Krasner Foundation Fellowship.
In addition to his work as a composer, he has performed with musicians such as harpsichordist Ben Katz and violinist Noemi Gasparini. He has also recorded with acoustic guitarist Brian Eno and jazz pianist Peter Bernstein. Moreover, his visual work has received critical praise and has been featured in various galleries and collections across the country.
Originally studying at York University to become a doctor, Stratus began her professional wrestling career in 1999 with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), later renamed the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). She soon became a mainstay on the Raw brand and managed a short-lived kayfabe feud with Lita, culminating in her defeat of Hemme at a pay-per-view event called Backlash, where she also captured her fourth Women’s Championship.
Despite being one of the most popular female wrestlers on the Raw roster, Stratus was a part of several controversial storylines, including her alleged sex with the show’s co-creator, Vince McMahon. Eventually, she was moved to the Smackdown brand and would go on to become a two-time Smackdown Women’s Champion and a three-time ‘WWE Babe of the Year.’ During her tenure in the company, she has also appeared on a variety of television shows and was a judge on Canada’s Got Talent. Stratus has since pursued an acting career and has appeared on several television shows, as well as hosting a reality series. She has also branched out into other business endeavors, including an upscale Chinese restaurant and yoga studio.
