Types of Dog Collars
Choosing the right collar for your dog is important for safety, comfort and style. A collar that is too tight can cause chafing or even suffocation while a loose collar can easily slip off and lead to your dog becoming lost or injured. The best collars are durable, easy to clean and provide adequate control of your pet on the leash.
Flat-buckle collars are the most common and come in a wide variety of colors, patterns and materials. Most are made of nylon or polyester, but they can also be made of leather, rolled leather, or other more durable materials. Many are available in both adjustable and non-adjustable styles. Adjustable collars can provide a little more leeway in case your dog’s measurements are slightly off or if they lose or gain weight over time.
Other types of collars include training collars that work through the use of pain, discomfort and intimidation to correct bad behavior. These require training to use properly and can be dangerous if used improperly or on dogs with extreme pulling issues or expert escape artists.
Another type of collar is a GPS collar that tracks your dog’s location. These are helpful for dog owners who want to be sure their dog is never more than a short walk away from home and are often a good choice for active hunting or working dogs.
Waterproof collars, made of materials like biothane or PVC-coated nylon and polyester, are great for dogs that love to swim or who frequently walk in rainy or muddy conditions. They keep moisture and odors at bay, though they may not be as comfortable as traditional nylon collars.Dog Collars
